Labor Day Eats & Treats
Labor Day is a time of celebration across the USA and in preparation for the holiday festivities, I wanted to bring you some of my favorite “eats” and “treats,” like I did for Memorial Day.
For those followers outside of the that USA, Labor Day is a federal holiday here which recognizes *the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. It’s also the unofficial end of summer in New England because the evenings begin to get chilly and the leaves begin to change and fall, which means you’ll find me poolside and lounging in my backyard as we exit summer.
Well let’s get into it! Most of the recipes below can be made ahead of time which is perfect if you’re entertaining or enjoying great R&R with family ❤️! These recipes are also perfect with great outdoor weather ☀️!
Treats – Munchies: We always kick-off holiday weekends with tasty tidbits, but who am I kidding that’s my jam most Friday nights and/or weekend 😉. Here’s a few of my favorites for holding over hungry friends and family…
Pimento Cheese Spread – Alway a go-to in our household and delicious on toast bites, pita chips, bagel crisps, tortillas, pretzels or crackers. Perfect for entertaining because it should be made beforehand because this spread is best when you let those flavors develop!
Salsa Verde – My tomatillos should be ready just in time for Labor Day weekend and I’m super excited to make this deliciousness because it is so fresh and delicious with a bit of heat.
Dill Dip – My take on a classic dip from my childhood! If you still have cherry or grape tomatoes, cucumbers, snap peas or zucchini in your garden, those make the quintessential dipper for a dill dip. Or you could place it into a bread bowl because what’s better than bread and dip 😋!
Muffuletta Pinwheels – The perfect finger food when keeping a social distance with beers!
Eats – Grill/Smoking: If you’re poolside, campside, lakeside or homeside due to COVID-19, here’s some barbecue or smoker ideas for your celebration…
Marinated Grilled Flank Steak – This is a total crowd pleaser because the meat is so tender and incredibly flavorful with a salty kick.
Beer Butt Chicken – Throw that bird on the grill or smoker for deliciously juicy chicken.
Perfect Cheeseburger – I mean you can’t go wrong with a perfect cheeseburger on a holiday weekend, am I right 😉?
Smoked Pulled Pork – My version is smoked and then finished in the oven which is perfect if you want to prep the day before.
Chili Lime Soy Marinated Chicken – My go-to chicken marinated because it’s delicious and so easy to make. If you don’t have lime, lemons work well too. Note: This marinate also works really well with Tofu.
Korean BBQ Steak Tips – These steak tips are new to my site and I’ve included a sweet and spicy version. Both are absolutely delicious and you don’t want to miss these if you love BBQ steak tips.
More Eats – Salad Sides: If you’re looking for tasty salad for your barbecue, here’s a few options…
Caesar Salad – Scratch dressing and croutons and trust me, you do not want to miss out on this deliciousness 😋!
Antipasto Tortellini Pasta Salad – Pepperoni, pickled veggies, cheese and freshness make this salad a perfect summer side.
Apple Spinach Salad – This salad has a mustard kick and is sweet and savory ❤️ and pairs well with BBQ pork or chicken.
For my USA followers, enjoy the summer wrap-up/Labor Day festivities and for those outside the USA, I hope you enjoy these favorites. Please 🙏 don’t forget to share your feedback if you do try any of my recipes!! Cheers 🍻, which reminds me, check out the cocktail section of my blog for some great summer cocktails.
