It’s Friday and cocktail time!

A French 75 is one of my favorites ❤️. The cocktail is made with gin, champagne, lemon juice, simple syrup and garnished with a lemon twist. I love 🍋forward cocktails and this drink offers smooth, bitter and sweet notes; making it very drinkable!

According to wiki, the history of the French 75 dates to the World War I when an early form of the drink was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris. The cocktail was said to have a kick that felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75 canon. The lemon bitter definitely proving that kick!

Early recipes offered different variations to the French 75 we know today. Ingredients for some of the classic recipes include Cognac, Calvados, grenadine, and absinthe. Also the sugar was often muddled too versus simply syrup commonly used today.

I’m slightly intrigued by the classic versions, but this recipe sticks with what I know.

Drinkware Needed: Cocktail Shaker, Champagne Flute, Cocktail Stirrer

This recipe makes 2 cocktails

Ingredients

Instructions: Combine lemon juice, gin and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a champagne glass and top up with champagne or prosecco. Stir the ingredients together and garnish with a lemon twist.
